Cover up to 100% of your medical expensesMedical insurance can cover up to 100% of your medical expenses, minus any "excess" (the portion of the hospital bill that you elect to pay).
Cover the full range of treatmentsDepending on the policy this may include private hospitalisation, surgery, accommodation, specialists and tests, GP visits, prescriptions.
Pay for specialist tests before and after treatmentMedical insurance will commonly cover specialist and test costs both before and after your treatment in hospital.
Cover yourself for major diagnostic testsMedical insurance will sometimes pay for a range of "major diagnostic" costs (like MRI scans, CT scans, angiograms, etc), even if you don't need treatment in hospital.

Why do you need Medical Insurance?
A delay in care may result in your overall health being compromised. This can then affect your lifestyle and your ability to generate an income to support yourself and your loved ones. If you need treatment, wouldn’t it be better if you were able to choose when it happens and who performs it? That is what Medical insurance is for. It keeps you protected financially and gives you the freedom and independence to determine your course of care, so you can get back to work quickly.
Fast access to treatmentWith medical insurance you avoid the frustrating waiting lists we are all so used to with the public health system. By being insured, you can access medical specialists, get diagnostic tests and be booked in for surgery far quicker so you can focus on recovering and getting back to work.
When ACC cover isn't enoughYou are usually covered in the event of an accident by ACC. However, what happens once you head back home? Private medical insurance will help you with the costs of rehabilitation or in more extreme cases residential care. This way you can focus on getting well and returning to work.
|
Reduced waiting timeIn the public care sector, non-urgent often means a waiting list. Medical insurance gives you the options you might not otherwise have access to. This is not limited to procedures; testing such as endoscopy, MRIs, X-rays, and other services are covered by Medical insurance.
Flexible policiesYou can design your plan based upon what is most important to you. If you only want cover for major medical expenses such as surgery, that's not a problem. If you want to expand your plan to include diagnostics and specialists, you can choose that, too. Some plans offer flexible “module” options where you can pick and choose what is important to you.

Frequently asked questions
Does Canopy help with any ongoing service?
Canopy’s advisers are dedicated to understanding your individual needs and building a lifetime
relationship with you, your family (and/or) business partners. We're here to help with questions,
changes to your cover, and of course claims. You will have our personal support, from quote to claim.
Will I need to have a medical exam, or see my doctor?
The majority of applicants are accepted based on the information they provide in their declaration
of health. From time to time, with your permission the insurer will write to your doctor for more detailed
information. However at time a simple medical examination is required. This is likely to involve a visit
to your home or work by a registered nurse who’ll collect blood and other samples, ask you about health
issues you outlined in your application, and perform a basic examination. We will let you know if this is
required and in most cases there is no charge.
Do I have to provide health evidence?
With the exception of your application answers, you are unlikely to be asked for more health evidence.
Insurers usually contact your GP directly for health information. It is very important that you disclose
all relevant health information on your application, to ensure successful future claims.
What is the cost of using an adviser from Canopy?
Our service is free.
When is my first payment due?
Most insurers give you the ability to specify the date in the month you’d like your regular payment
processed. Once your policy is accepted and issued by the insurer, your first premium becomes due
within the following 2-3 weeks.
